Nestled in the mountains of Hidalgo, the Pueblo Mágico of Real del Monte offers one of the most charming and authentic Independence Day celebrations in Mexico. Its mining heritage, cobblestone streets, and the mist that gently settles over the town at dusk give September 15th a unique atmosphere—very different from the experience in larger cities.

The evening begins in the main square, where families, locals, and visitors gather. From early on, the plaza fills with lights, music, and the irresistible aroma of traditional Mexican street food. The town’s colonial architecture, combined with its English heritage, creates a truly distinctive setting for the festivities.

One of the most anticipated moments is the reenactment of Independence Day, when locals dressed as insurgents walk through the streets, commemorating the events of 1810. From the historic balconies of the main church, the famous “Grito” delivered by Ignacio López Rayón on September 16, 1812—considered the first outside of Dolores—is remembered.
